Oxeye Game Studio is a game development studio based in Stockholm, Sweden,[1] formed in July 2003[2] and currently comprised of the developers Jens "jeb"/"Khaile" Bergensten, Daniel "thewreck"/"vraket" Brynolf, and Pontus "kinten" Hammarberg.[1]
History
In 2002, as Whispers in Akarra was being developed by Jens, Daniel and Pontus also began to contribute to the project with artwork,[3] and Oxeye Game Studio was founded the following July with the intent of remaking Whispers in Akarra in 3D,[4] but ultimately becoming a standalone entity. In 2005, Strategist was published as Oxeye's first game using a modified version of the Irrlicht Engine (called Daisy)[5] while Dawn of Daria (the spiritual successor to Whispers in Akarra)[6] was still being developed, though the rights to Strategist and Whispers in Akarra were ultimately sold,[4] and Dawn of Daria was cancelled.[7]
In 2007, Oxeye released Harvest: Massive Encounter, which won second place in the Best PC Game category at the 2007 Swedish Game Awards.[8] In order to add modding support to Harvest, the Daisy engine was modified to use the Lua programming language, becoming DaisyMoon in the process.[5] This would become Oxeye's engine of choice, as every subsequent game would be developed in it.
In August 2009, work began on a new project (known then as Project B) based on a prototype Daniel had made in 2001 known as Blueface.[9] Project B was later renamed Cobalt,[10] and was released on 2 February 2016.[11] A simplified spinoff, Cobalt WASD, was released the following year.[12][13]
At present, Oxeye Game Studio is not developing any new games.
